Next week is my kids’ school vacation.
I’ll be doing things with them for the week, so I probably not be posting much, if at all. I have scheduled my training sessions and meetings at other times.
And that’s okay.
There’s a feeling of… well… guilt that many professionals feel when they take personal time. Some of it may be generational. Some of it may be gender-based. Some of it may be Type-A perfectionist with an underlying worry that we’ll either let everyone down who is counting on us or—even worse—they will realize that they don’t really need us at all.
As leaders, we can work to change this facet of work-driven culture. We can make sure our people know it’s okay to use their vacation days. Because employees who have this freedom tend to be happier—for obvious reasons. Happy, motivated, recharged employees have better morale and retention.
I’m going to take these days to enjoy spending time with my kids while they are still kids. Have a great week. See you in May.
