The Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution are worthy of honor and celebration.

Self-determination and government based on the consent of the governed were paradigm-shifting principles. And our founders actually made it happen.

I hope you will take a moment this long weekend to appreciate the vision of those leaders nearly a quarter-millennium ago.

Leaders don’t have to be perfect to accomplish great things.
And those things they accomplished don’t have to be perfect to be great.

We can also do our part to lead wherever we are, to leave our part of the union “more perfect” than we found it.
