Many Americans have a “tough it out” work ethic. In previous years, they would drag themselves into work, even if they had a fever and other symptoms.
This is not a good thing. Now that the pandemic has shown us how we can work remotely, you may want to update your policies.
Strongly encourage symptomatic people to stay home.
Don’t penalize people who stay home when they are sick (or when their kids are sick).
Don’t require a doctor’s note for absences—doctor’s offices are overly busy these days, and going in for a note actually may expose the person to additional viruses.
Provide hand sanitizer stations and clean regularly.
Keep the rest of your workforce healthy, by keeping people who are sick out of the office.
