As leaders, we set expectations for our people. And it’s a lot easier for our people to continue to learn, develop, and grow as competent professionals if we are role models for lifelong growth ourselves.
Look for ways to prepare yourself for the next promotion, and to prepare your people to rise and backfill positions when you do. Show them the ladder that will take them up to where they want to go. Give training to grow their skills and delegate tasks to give them the experiences they need. Find these opportunities for yourself, as well.
Don’t get complacent with your skillset. The world and our industries continue to change and evolve. If we don’t stay current—or even better, take the lead—we risk being left behind.
