Worth Bragging Over
There is a lot of advice out there for people trying to advance their careers.
For example: “Keep a ‘brag document’ – a running list of every win, project, compliment, or achievement at work. Update it weekly. When it’s performance review time or you’re updating your resume, you won’t be sitting there trying to remember what you did six months ago.” ~ @PursuDr
Do this for your direct reports, as well as yourself. If you have scheduled check-ins with each team member “all-hands” meetings each week, jot down a note for each accomplishment and update the list immediately after the meeting ends. If you have a close-out doc you complete after a deliverable goes out, make sure that it includes a method to acknowledge key contributors, and have those acknowledgements feed into a “record of successes” for each person.
Reference the success list for each person at least quarterly, and make sure you check those lists prior to annual performance reviews. Your people will see that you know what they contribute to the team and the company… and they won’t feel the need to update those resumes as often.
