Training
“Education is the mother of leadership.” ~ Wendell Willkie
If you don’t feel comfortable in your leadership role, it may be because you never were trained to be a leader.
Our childhood education trained us to get into college.
Our college education trained us to be a professional in our chosen field.
Most of us never got OFFICIAL training on how to lead other people.
Some people get some experience when young by being a leader of a team or organization. We might get advice from more experienced people. We might have role models. And we might be able to cobble together enough of those experiences to do the job.
If you don’t feel confident as a project manager, then get project manager training.
If you don’t feel confident as a public speaker, then get public speaking training.
And if you don’t feel confident as a leader of your team or your organization, get leadership training.
One benefit is the knowledge—you don’t know what you don’t know. But another benefit is the confidence that comes from the feeling that “I know how to do this!” as you lead your team. It’s better for you, and it’s better for that team.
