Tech Check
Are you and your team up-to-date on your tech?
It’s easy to get complacent. We know how to use the existing software. We know how the current scanner operates. We know how to use the measuring devices on-site.
Every 6-12 months, it’s good to check in on the state of the tech you and your team use. If there is a new software, perhaps a junior staffer would like to learn how to use it. If they find it’s significantly better than what the team uses now, it might be a good idea to have them give a lunch-and-learn overview. If equipment is out of warrantee, perhaps we can budget a set-aside each year, so that we will be able to replace it in a few years.
If your team or your organization is growing, you might even recommend that a few interested people form a committee that meets twice a year to discuss technical advances and makes recommendations to the partners if/when a new software or hardware could improve performance, efficiency, or ease-of-use.
It’s worth it to devote an hour or two a year to these considerations if it means that your team will not be frantically playing catch-up when they have no choice but to make a technical change.
