Talent
“Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.” ~ Stephen King
Hire talented people. But also make sure that they are MOTIVATED people. Good ideas are necessary but not sufficient for success.
As leaders, we can bring out the best in our team members if we keep them effectively motivated. Give your people prompt positive feedback for completing assignments and for their good efforts along the way.
Empower your people to take ownership and responsibility for their portion of the team’s activities. Build up their confidence, so that they have an “I’ve got this!” attitude that keeps them engaged and moving forward.
Reward strong efforts, as well as achievements. People rarely do something perfectly the first time they try it, and they will stop trying if they get discouraged or demotivated. Focus on channeling their efforts toward improvement, and they will keep trying far longer than someone who just gets criticized.
A strong work ethic can be cultivated. Make sure you are building up your people, so that they continue to give their best efforts over time.
