Leaders need to let their people figure out how to solve problems.
But leaders ALSO need to make sure to understand what they are doing and how they are doing it.
Empower your team members to come up with a plan to solve the problem, but you might want to have them run it by you prior to implementation. Schedule check-ins and ask questions to make sure that solutions are safe, legal, effective, and will work with the other components of the project.
There’s a balance point on the “hovering over the person checking every decision” to “delegate and abandon” continuum for each person on each project. Make sure you find the right level of supervision that each person needs.
