Rising to the Challenge
“In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.” ~ Albert Einstein
Things change.
In many cases, they change even when we don’t want them to. And while we may not control what happens, we do have control over our responses to it.
Be a guiding light for your people out of the darkness. Reassure them that we will get through this, and share a vision for how we get there.
When enacting solutions, don’t just aim to make everything exactly the way it was. Use the opportunity to update how you do things to an even better option. Streamline the old systems that may have been jerry-rigged over the past few years to work more smoothly. Side note: the term “jerry-rigged” comes from a middle English nautical term for improvised sail rigging. If you are still using “improvised sails,” this might be an opportunity to install more modern means of propulsion.
Take and hold ethical positions and demonstrate your high integrity. Don’t compromise what you know is right to take the easy way out. Look for the way to do the most good for the most people most of the time.
