Right Fit
Make sure you and your people are in positions where you are valued.
Some people are seen as “under-performers.” And in their current role, they are under-performing. But that may simply be because they are in the wrong role. Find out where their talents lie by trying other options, if you have them. Find out if they have interpersonal issues with another member of the team that may be holding them back.
Not everyone is a good fit for sales. Not everyone is a good fit for deep-dive analyses. Not everyone is a good fit for management roles. Not everyone is a good fit for your specific team or company culture.
Try to help people thrive where they are, but if you use all of your tools and they are still not thriving, consider helping them find another position. Rainforest plants do not do well in the desert, and vice-versa. The problem with the “under-performer” may simply be that they are in the wrong place for them.
