If you put your introverted technical expert into a job in customer relations, or if you put your charismatic go-getter to work on repetitive technical tasks, you are wasting talent and making everyone unhappy.
Assign people to roles that use their competencies. You can work to expand their comfort zones, so that they can grow and do more, but don’t take them out of their comfort zones.
You can throw someone off a dock to teach them to swim, and they might learn.
But they also learn that they don’t want to go to the lake with you again.
