Preparing for Opportunity
“If a window of opportunity appears, don’t pull down the shade.” ~ Tom Peters
When we have the chance to do something we have aspired to do, do it! Don’t jump at every option, but jump at the ones that align with your long-term vision and goals.
Pre-think your “go/no-go” choices, so you don’t have to start from scratch. If you are trying to increase market share in your region, bid for more jobs. If you are looking to expand into a new geographic area, research that state’s regulations and make sure your company’s practices comply, then research local areas or small firms that might be a good fit for a merger/acquisition. Keep that information “on the back burner,” so that you know if a new opportunity is worth pursuing.
Consider where your industry is heading. Consider what evolving needs your clients might have in the next few years. Consider how you might be able to position your company to better meet the changing conditions, because conditions are always changing, and sometimes they are changing pretty quickly.
