Planning for the Future
We (as individual leaders) don’t control a lot of things that influence our business.
That makes it hard to plan for the future. We don’t know how the winds will shift politically, economically, environmentally, etc.
Consider having a flow-chart for your planning. “If X happens, we’ll do this, but if Y happens, we’ll do that.” Prep your financial forecasts for a range from strong to weak performances. And act with integrity as an individual and a company—while things may shift in the future, it’s a lot easier to justify and move forward from decisions made with honesty and an ethical commitment to treat your people and your clients right.
You might also plan to allow people to work from home tomorrow—the election means that many schools are closed so that they can be used as polling places, and your people may be struggling with childcare concerns.
And once those political races are called, we will hopefully have a better idea about some of those shifting winds for future planning.
