To-do lists are a great tool for getting organized. However, we can reframe our thinking about our lives, our careers, and our personal fulfillment by creating a PERSONAL VISION for our lives. Start by thinking of all the areas of your life that matter (relationship/marriage, children, career, faith, health, etc.), and then think about who you are in each of those spheres of life.
What really matters? What is each area’s purpose in your life? What is the BEST VERSION of yourself when you are in that area of life? Don’t think about becoming something you’re not (my fitness vision does not include “be fit enough to be an Olympic athlete”) but think about who you ARE when you are at your AUTHENTIC BEST in that area.
If you can write down a short description of your purpose and your “best self” for each area, it can be a wonderful tool for focusing your thoughts and efforts in a productive way. It might be a little too personal to post on your office wall, but you might want to keep a copy on your phone or your laptop that you can consult when you need to refocus, remotivate, or make a tough decision.
