If you come in with a “well, this is awful” attitude, your team will agree with you.

If you can reframe your own thinking to “This is a tough challenge, but we’re going to rise to it and win through,” your team will feel it, too. It’s okay to acknowledge the bad stuff, but focus on how you’re going to make things good again.

You will have more energy and focus. They will have more energy and focus. More will get done to actually solve the problem, and the results will get better faster, which will improve morale further.

This has to be authentic—don’t be that dog in that meme in the burning room saying, “This is fine.” Look for a solution that works. Focus on the fix. Give yourself the courage, and you’ll also have some extra courage to share.
