Like a Family, but...
If your company is “like a family,” then I hope it is like a happy family.
Work to build a team that is filled with mutual trust and mutual loyalty. It’s great to work with people you like and care about.
If you have a culture in which your people go above-and-beyond for each other, work to keep it. Don’t take it for granted, though—you may be supportive of each other, but don’t let the culture use emotional pressure to encourage unhealthy, one-sided sacrifices. If your people go the extra mile, make sure you are compensating them for the mileage.
