Have you backed up your hard drives recently?

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but back up your computer.

It’s always a good idea to make backups. If you have an automatic backup system (external hard drive, the cloud, etc.), now is a good time to check that it’s still active and working correctly. Check your own systems, and ask your team members to check theirs.

Weather problems can cause power surges or blackouts. Ransomware is a thing. Malware and viruses happen. People may be traveling with their company laptops, and they could get dropped or stolen. End-of-year archiving might accidentally remove still-active files. Backups give you a second chance when things go wrong.

I hope this PSA helps save someone reading this a lot of grief and hassle.
