It's Not About You
“The more you talk about them, the more important they will feel. The more you listen to them, the more important you will make them feel.” ~ Roy T. Bennett
If you want to be a great leader, then don’t make it about you. Make it about your people.
Don’t talk to hear the sound of your own voice. Avoid excessive monologuing. If you have a meeting in which you do nearly all of the talking, that could have been an email.
Involve your people in decision-making. Give them frequent and effective feedback. Mentor and grow your people by building their confidence and competence with your words and actions.
Make them the main characters in their own careers, rather than a supporting cast in a production in which you are the star.
