Do your people know they can trust you?
As leaders, we need to be worthy of their trust.
Follow through when you say you will do something.
Be accountable, and hold your people accountable.
Do your research and know what you are talking about. No one wants to follow someone who demonstrates their ignorance.
Don’t just say that an activity is important. Show your people that it is important by also doing it yourself. Walk the walk.
Be someone they can talk to. Have an open-door policy, a “no mistakes, only learning experiences” mindset, and keep people’s confidences when they need a sounding board (within boundaries—HR may have some rules about reporting felonies, harassment, or hostile work environments, of course).
