One of the most important things you can do for your people is instill a sense of “I can do this, and it’s going to be okay.”
Confidence is not instinctive for everyone, but leaders can build it in their people.
Be realistic, but positive. “Yeah, this is a tough situation, but I know this team will be able to rise to the challenge and make it through.”
Build their skills, their knowledge, or their experience, and use those to frame the current challenge. “Remember what we did on the X project? We can do something like that here and make it work well.”
Be the safety net when they are out on the tightrope. “See what you can do on this today. If you get stuck, come talk to me and we’ll work out a solution.”
