Most strategic initiatives fall short. They may be good ideas. People may know they are good ideas. But they get postponed and put off and “maybe I can find some time to do it next week,” and eventually they fade as priorities as people focus on short-term deadlines.

This is a reminder to consider the strategic initiatives of your organization. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but:

• Schedule that meeting

• Check in with the committee members

• Talk to the CEO

• Get updates from your direct reports

• Go back and actually look at that strategic plan to refresh your memory

Too often, good ideas fail. If you have a good idea in-hand, perhaps it’s time to make it a reality.
