When we delegate to empower our people, we still give them the parameters for success. “It needs to include X and Y and account for Z. It needs to be completed by <deadline>.” But, while we can have an “open door” to help them brainstorm or troubleshoot, we don’t have to micromanage the process. Let your people work it out for themselves. If you like, you can schedule check-ins or “run it by me before you start the next portion” meetings, to make sure things are still on the rails. But get out of the way, and your people will grow more effective with every task.
