Information Framing
As leaders, we can communicate in different ways. Some of those ways are more inspiring and motivational than others.
Give your people a framing that brings joy and fulfillment.
“We get to train today!” is more inspiring than “We have to train today.”
Praise their good work and good efforts, rather than only “red penning” all the little things they did imperfectly. Constant nit-picking is soul-eroding.
And have FUN when you can! I once worked with a company that had buckets of nerf guns in a few places around the cubicles. Apparently, there were weekly nerf battles between the two teams in the office. Another firm had cookouts once a week during the summer. A different office had a foot-tall Hulk statue that was awarded to the person who had dealt with the biggest obstacles during the past week—it stayed on their desk for a week as a badge of honor.
Communicate with your people and find ways to improve their work experiences. Not only will that improve their motivation, they will also see that you care.
