Bragging usually isn’t a flattering look for leaders.
But some of us really would like people to “know what we bring to the team.” And there are some people who have the mindset that, if you aren’t bragging about how good you are, it’s because you have nothing to brag about.
For many people, bragging “I” statements make the bragger look immature and arrogant. Read the room to see where to aim on the humble-to-bragging continuum. Introverts and friendly/supportive people tend NOT to like it. Assertive extroverts expect it. Rev it up or tone it down accordingly.
You can effectively use the “our team” brag, even if you don’t feel comfortable bragging in general. “I am so proud of this group! We have some amazing people. Look at this project—didn’t our team do great work? And this was all done on-time and on-budget—I am so fortunate to have such a fantastic team.”
