I’ve been watching a few time-travel movies recently. I enjoy the genre, partially for the possibilities it offers the imagination, and partially because I love catching the frequent logical “fails” (along the lines of The Grandfather Paradox).
Can we change the future? Of course—we do it all the time! But it doesn’t have that epic “Hollywood vibe” when we do it. We change the future when we make decisions and take actions that impact ourselves, our team, our firm, our clients, our families, our communities, etc. We also set ourselves onto a course into the future when we DON’T make those decisions and take those actions.
So, if we are all traveling into the future (at a time-travel speed of 1 year=1 year), let’s make the effort to consider where we want to go and what we want to do. Do you want to grow your firm? Expand your revenue streams? Pivot with anticipated changes in the industry? Set things up to keep going after you retire?
Consider what you want it to be, and think about the steps to get from where you are now to that future (and hopefully awesome!) place. Kick the ideas around, get some feedback and input from some of your fellow time-travelers, and then make the decisions and start taking the actions that will bring you to your preferred destination.
Happy travels!
