Got Your Back
“The best leaders aren’t those who never falter, but those who inspire others to get back up after they fall.” ~ Anonymous
Setbacks are a part of life. As leaders, we can influence how people deal with the situation when things don’t “meet expectations.”
Help your people get back on their feet.
Don’t dismiss their feelings, which are a valid response from their perspective.
Brainstorm with them on ways to move forward or pivot toward other challenges.
Build back their confidence and motivation.
Set them up for success with a smaller task, so that they can rebound.
Help your people see a long-term path back to success and security for themselves and the team.
Your response when things go wrong may be remembered far more vividly than your response when things turn out as expected, so make sure that response. If you can give people back their courage and their motivation in the dark times, often you will get their loyalty and best efforts for years to come.
