Back in the 1990s, The Jennings Group did a lot of management consulting with technical service firms throughout the United States.
“Our people have great technical skills,” they would tell us, “But they don’t know how to work with other people well enough for us to promote them into leadership roles.”
Technical education programs tend to develop technical proficiencies. But “peopling” is a different skill-set. Everyone CAN be an effective leader at something! Seriously—everyone! But developing people into this “best version of themselves” requires figuring out their natural abilities and talents, discovering where, who, and how they will lead well, and then developing the skills so they can actually do it.
Three decades ago, we started offering a program to develop a PRACTICAL SKILL-SET in cohorts of rising stars in these engineering, architecture, and technical-service firms. Many of our alums are now leading the companies and organizations that originally put them into our courses.
Not gonna lie—I think that’s pretty cool.
If you know someone (or if you are someone) who wants to rise into a leadership role in your organization, I hope you will consider one of our programs. We have several starting in September, and a few of them are close to full, so if you are interested, I encourage you to look into registration now.

Thanks for letting me promote our hosting associations and their leadership programs today—these ACEC chapters are a wonderful resource for people who work for their member firms. They also offer other amazing training opportunities (although this leadership class is our favorite) to these employees. You might want to check them out.
