Many people can keep things in order if they are in the office before everyone else arrives and after everyone else leaves.
But if you can grow and empower your people, they can handle the day-to-day without your constant input. They are not just standing around waiting to be told what to do. They solve problems when they come up and they look for what else needs to be done to make the projects successful.
Grow your people, so that they are comfortable, confident, and competent to do great work and make decisions along the way. They still need to keep you informed, but you can go off-site for a client visit or (gasp!) take a weeklong vacation, and your people can keep things humming along. This involves getting them the right training and experience, so that they are properly familiar with the work. It also helps to have an open-door policy when you are in the office, so that people can use you as a sounding-board when issues come up. Encourage a web of interaction on your team, as well, so that Ann can ask Bob for an assist (and vice-versa) when you are not available.
