We had an ice storm this past weekend and lost power and cell service.
We were cut off for more than 24 hours.
Fortunately, this was a weekend. But if it had been a workday, it would have been a problem to communicate with my team. Most of them do not live in New Hampshire and did not have the same weather event impact. Would they have been able to keep things running if I’m off-the-grid for a few days?
Yes. They are awesome. But it’s better to communicate what-to-do-ifs to your people in advance. It reduces their stress and second-guessing.
Consider having a plan so that people know what to do if you, the boss, suddenly go radio-silent. Consider having a plan so people know what to do if the office loses power or is inaccessible. There might be a fire, a flood, a kaiju attack—who knows with these new weather patterns?
Keep your tech charged and watch the weather. And make sure your people are prepping and are okay when the weather closes in.
