Delegation
Some people find delegating to be a challenge.
Make sure that you delegate to your team members.
If they CAN do the thing, then they SHOULD do the thing.
You’re not going to be sitting around doing nothing—effective delegation frees up your time so that you can do the things that only you can do. It frees up your time to coach and train your people to do more. It frees up your time for business development, so that you can bring in more work in the future.
Some people don’t want to delegate because the other people “might not want to do that task.” Some people don’t delegate because they think “it’s just faster if I do it myself.” And some people don’t delegate because “they’ll just do it wrong, and then I’ll end up doing it anyway.”
However, if you can communicate effectively with your team members, you can motivate them to want to do the task. You can communicate your expectations and teach them how to do things the right way. And while delegating a task to someone for the first time might take longer than just doing it yourself, by the third repetition of delegating a similar task to that person, it’s probably saving your time, and now that person has additional skills and experience.
Delegate!
