As people move up into an organization, it’s normal to not want to look ignorant.
You will have a LOT more credibility with your people if you say, “let me look into it and get back to you” than if you guess or make stuff up.
You actually look SMARTER saying “I don’t know, but I will soon.”
Yes, this also involves actually researching and then getting back to the person, too. But that is a LOT less work than cleaning up a costly mistake and then recruiting and training new people after your existing team members take jobs with bosses they can trust.
