We all spend time in a little world in a bottle—our company.
What is our corporate culture like? Does it make us feel good about what we do? Does it make us feel happy and proud to be a part of the company?
If you have an amazing corporate culture, in which everyone feels respected, valued, and included—great! Make sure to nurture that culture. Have events—how about a summer barbecue for your people and their families? Make sure your communication reflects that culture. Build your people up. Encourage them. Celebrate successes! Hire people that will be assets (not disruptors) of a strong and positive environment.
If you don’t have a great corporate culture (either company-wide, or in your branch or your department), consider what you and your people might WANT it to be. Develop that vision. Do you want something supportive and like-a-family? Exciting and fast-paced? Calming and conducive to deep focus on technical work? Collaborative and creative? What fits your people? What fits your work and your objectives?
And then make it happen! As leaders, we have influence on the tone and the culture. We can use that influence to make our little worlds into better places.
