Consider what you can do to make your company an employer people choose.
Start with pay—pay people a fair wage! Make sure your benefits are competitive with the industry in your geographic area, as well. Consider your team and your culture—people can enjoy the environment in which they work. And also look at how people can make a difference in their roles. People want the time they invest in their careers to MEAN something. If you pay well enough, people will sign up to be faceless cogs who don’t make a difference. But that would be a lousy life. Everyone in the organization benefits from the psychological boost of knowing they are doing good work and making the world a better place. Remind them that they matter and are doing good work for a good reason.
