Communication
Communication is important. We all know that.
But the challenge is communicating to other people in the ways that THEY connect.
I might write a beautiful email, with each paragraph describing in exquisite detail what needs to be done and why it is important. But that is a wasted effort on my part if the recipient doesn’t read beyond the three-line preview in their inbox because it looks “way too long to read.”
I might assign tasks clearly and directly, with a simple statement like, “Do X, Y, and Z by the end of the day.” But if that demotivates the person because I’m “too bossy,” then that communication fails.
If I come in with gentle consideration and ask people, “If it’s not too much trouble, could we get X completed?” then the other person might not even realize that I want THEM to do it, and that it is important to complete it today.
Communicate to others the way THEY like to receive communication. Use a communication style that 1) makes them feel respected, 2) clearly conveys the information or message, and 3) makes the recipient WANT to be included in the thing you are communicating about.
When it comes to communication, one size does not fit all.
