Communication
We often hear about communications problems in companies.
Use what works! Some people prefer face-to-face communication (in-person or remote), while others prefer written forms. Try to have a single source for the information that everyone needs to know—that might be a weekly all-hands meeting or a Slack channel or a group email. Keep the all-hands info brief and provide links or schedule follow-ups for the details. But make it a one-stop, reliable place for people to keep current on what is happening.
Tailor the individual messages to the individual person and their communication preferences—pick up the phone or write that email or stop by their desk, as appropriate. Yes, this is extra effort, but it pays off in increased motivation, more effective communication, and improved morale and retention.
