Check in on your People
This is a stressful time. Check on your team members.
People are anxious over their finances. Politics creates… let’s call it “uncertainty” for millions of Americans. We still have that winter darkness for the majority of every 24 hours that sucks away so many of our productive impulses. That “get in shape” resolution has fallen by the wayside. Valentine’s Day is only fun for people in happy relationships, and that’s probably a smaller percentage of your people than you might think.
So, a lot of people are white-knuckling it through until spring.
Find ways to brighten people’s lives. Consider what THEY find uplifting, enjoyable, or inspiring—don’t be the tone-deaf boss who brings in doughnuts for a team member with diabetes. If they are struggling, help with time management or lighten their load. Remotivate them and remind them how much they are respected, valued, and appreciated.
And practice self-care. Check your own anxiety levels and motivation, and take steps to recharge if needed (maybe over the weekend?). You’ll be better able to help your team if you aren’t running on fumes yourself.
