“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”
― John Lydgate
Being able to compromise and build consensus is an important part of leadership. People won’t get everything they want, but but everyone will get everything they need.
People who try to lead with a “my way or the highway” attitude sometimes find themselves out on the highway.
And people who try to appease someone with that “my way or the highway” attitude at the expense of the team won’t be on that team for long.
Don’t create factions to play against each other. Don’t allow siloing and factions to fester. Create an environment in which everyone can strive to do their best—and be recognized and rewarded for it—while those efforts also benefit the whole team.
