As kids go back to school, their parents’ lives return to “normal” in the workplace.
Meetings will once again be fully attended, as no one is on vacation. Smart bosses will find ways to help working parents to balance before-school dropoffs or after-school pickups and will schedule team meetings to maximize attendance.
Expect that parents of elementary-school kids and preschoolers will bring germs in regularly, so it might be a good time to set or remind your people of the “please work remotely if you feel sick” policy to keep the colds and flu from hitting the whole office.
It’s also a good time to adjust the schedule (if the schedule needs adjusting). Some of your people may take training courses or graduate-school classes that follow the academic year. Your summer interns are going back to college. It’s a natural rebalancing point, so consider this a reminder to check in on these scheduling factors and set things up to run smoothly for the fall.
