A Gentle Reminder
Today might be a good day to review secure communications practices with your team members.
Make sure your people know how to protect your company’s and your client’s sensitive or privileged information. This can include what methods and apps are secure for transmission of information and documents, and what are not. Include reminders to not discuss private information in public (such as in the crowded gate area of the airport while waiting for a flight), to not send social security numbers or banking info as email attachments, etc. And, uh, remind them to make sure that everyone tagged as a receiver of your message is the right person and to not use “reply all” unless intentional.
Tangentially, make sure your people know how to appropriately document communications and preserve those records. There may be legal implications if those records are missing when you need them.
Every once in a while, we get a reminder that good judgment is not as universal as we might like. Help your people to have more of it.
